Fondation Louis Vuitton holds its grand opening ceremony in Paris
With Anna, Karl and Hollywood stars in attendance
Following a press preview this week, Bernard Arnault held a special preview alongside French President François Hollande yesterday in Paris, as they pushed a button to light up the new Frank Gehry-designed structure, the magnificent Fondation Louis Vuitton, which glowed in the night.
"Louis Vuitton is the brand in our group that probably has the strongest links with artists – and for the longest time," the Chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton said on the eve of the opening event, which was peopled by fashion designers, Hollywood actress muses such as Marion Cotillard with Raf Simons and Michelle Williams with Nicolas Ghesquière, plus politicians, artists and LVMH names-to-know.
"Since I arrived at LVMH, I thought it would be a good idea to pay homage to the creative realms that have brought economic success to our business, Vuitton in particular," he continued.
Monday's ceremony marks Arnault's decade-long quest to construct an art museum in Paris, and in a Gehry building that already has won praise from the world's architectural critics.
It also illustrates how fashion and luxury goods – one of France's main exports amid a general economic low – have the power to attract worldwide attention.
