First look: Marchesa Cruise 2014/15

Bringing out the bestsellers

It was business first at the Marchesa Cruise 2014/15 presentation yesterday, with a focus on silhouettes that are proven to work for the label

For a brand that relies so heavily on romance, Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were particularly blunt when discussing their inspiration for this season.

“It’s a sales-driven collection,” said Craig, noting the importance of hitting the label’s familiar approach with fresh constructions. There was of course a floral-printed silk gauze gown and structural rosettes were key.

Interestingly, the designers – who are heading to London next season from New York – also explored the notion of separates rather than focussing simply on dresses... Step forward lace gypsy top with extra-wide silk wool trousers. This was apparently done, “because sometimes people don’t want to put on a dress,” explained Craig.
