First look: Balenciaga Cruise 2014/15
Nautical noises
Alexander Wang brought more of his signature aesthetic to Balenciaga's Cruise 2014/15 collection, attending the runway show himself for the first time after his CFDA appearance this week.
The line took inspiration from sailing – sails, ropes, braiding, raincoats and rubber boots – which can sometimes veer towards looking somewhat preppy, but not at Balenciaga.
French chic and minimal, tomboy appeal too precedence here – mostly in black: a beautiful A-line black leather coat bonded to navy jersey and a strapless black crepe romper with a contrast pink silk band in particular.
After the show, Wang said he wanted to bring a "youthful essence" to the line, breaking with the traditional Balenciaga symmetry and architecture by cutting away from the body and introducing a fluidity with scarf details, such as silk shirts with streaming, asymmetric hemlines.
