First look: Alexander McQueen Cruise 2014/15
Fur, leather, silk, check patterns and Perspex, were just some of the materials used in Alexander McQueen's new Cruise collection.
Using a combination of cultural and artistic references, ranging from Matisse to kimonos and men's wear fabrics, creative director Sara Burton fused together a collection that was rich in opulent fabrics and sculpted silhouettes.
With a hint of androgyny, Burton displayed a variety of ornamentation, with coats and dresses in black-and-white patterns inspired by a Prince of Wales check and furs exploding in abstract floral prints, while coloured leather mini-dresses featured laser cut floral panels.
Using details seen in traditional Japanese dress, Burton also used raglan sleeves and high collars paired with bright leather pants, whith heavy embellishment coming in the form of coloured Perspex flower petals stitched around dressed and layered silk flowers embroidered onto organza gowns creating a 3D effect reminiscent of origami.
