Fendi announces new capsule collection
A homage to Silvana Mangano
Silvana Mangano – the iconic Italian actress – is the subject of a new capsule collection homage by Fendi. Inspired by the concept of travel, the new collection features exotic skin editions of the Boston bag, a trench coat with a fur collar, trolleys and silk, cashmere foulards and charms.
Mangano’s original vintage Pergamena suitcases have inspired the trolleys in the new Fendi capsule collection. The Italian actress was a longtime Fendi customer, working with the Roman brand for years – including a costume and fur collaboration for the Luchino Visconti 1974 film Gruppo di Famiglia in un Interno.
Friends, Veronica de Laurentiis (Mangano's daughter) and Silvia Venturini Fendi (Fendi's creative director of accessories) worked closely on the new fashion homage.
“Silvana Mangano’s innate beauty, natural elegance and sophistication have always been for me a great source of inspiration. Working together with her daughter, Veronica de Laurentiis, has been a unique experience as she transmitted Silvana’s sense of beauty, passions and uniqueness that are reflected in all the products,” said Fendi.
A percentage of all sales will be donated to the Italian ONLUS, which was created by Silvana Mangano's daughter – Veronica de Laurentiis, and benefits the first 'Centro Silvana Mangano', which supports women victims of domestic violence. “I love the idea of women helping other women,” Venturini Fendi said.
The collection will hit Fendi stores worldwide from April 8 and go on-sale online at Net-a-porter from mid April 2015
