Exclusive: Roksanda Ilincic designs exclusive collection for The Outnet in aid of Malaika
Fashion for a cause
Roksanda Ilincic is the latest designer to team up with a major e-commerce on a dedicated collection, however the designer is bringing a little extra heart to proceedings with the launch of her capsule with The Outnet.
The designer has designed 20 pieces that reflect the brand's signature aesthetic, including interpretations of some of her most classic pieces. With statement sleeves, bright hues and bows aplenty, the collection is decidedly Roksanda but the sartorial prowess it will imbue you with is not the only reason to invest (although it is a good one).
A percentage of the proceeds from the collection will be donated to female empowerment charity Malaika. The Democratic Republic of Congo-based organisation aims to empower young women through schooling and by making healthcare accessible to them. The charity is run by Noëlla Coursaris Musunka who stars in the campaign for the collection. In a touching detail, the backdrop used in the images is made up of artwork created by girls in the DRC who are supported by Malaika.
In a release, Roksanda said of the collaboration, "Noella aims to empower girls and young women through education while my aim is to support, lift and shelter them through my designs, creating a soft armour for life's daily challenges. I feel we both want to make a small but hopefully significant change in the world through this concept of empowerment." She added that the collection was also a way for her address to topic of circular economy. "I felt a duty to address a more circular economy at this time when fashion is moving faster than ever. It is so important for us as designers to now slow down, to think and to be more conscious about the way in which our customer is consuming clothes. In relooking at treasured archive materials and some of my most favourite and signature cuts from the past, this opportunity with The Outnet has given me the perfect platform to do this."
The collection will go on sale globally on TheOutnet.com from January 24.
