First look: Erdem Pre-Fall 2015

Erdem Moralioglu's period piece

Inspired by beautiful films, actresses and art from the 50s and 60s, the Canadian-born Turkish designer unveiled a collection filled shapes of the era and contemporary ornamentation

Using a list of references – a Diane Arbus portrait of identical twin girls, Austrian-born film actress Romy Schneider, Italian-French drama film Death in Venice, schoolgirl uniforms and Tina Barney's photographs of upper-class Europeans – Erdem Moralioglu had his hands full for for Pre-Fall.

Showing for the first time in New York, the latest Erdem offerings were drenched in a rich colour palette of red, navy and black-and-white, along with his signature floral patterns and lace embellishments. Silhouettes went from jackets with sailor collars and ladylike tea-length skirts to boyish turtlenecks worn under Brenton-striped sweaters.

Known for his exquisite fabric treatments, some looks were adorned with floral jacquards, dark lace or jeweled diamond patterns – all of which encapsulated a modern meets mod type of situation.
