Christian Siriano has pulled two dresses from his latest collection after being called out by Diet Prada
A digital win
Diet Prada has made waves in the fashion industry in recent years for its unashamed calling out of designers who "appropriate" other designers' works or behave badly. In the Dolce & Gabbana controversy of 2017, the Instagram account was key in highlighting Stefano Gabbana's alleged comments to people on the social media site, for example.
Now, the site has pointed out that two of the dresses featured in Christian Siriano's latest F/W '19 collection were very similar to two pieces from Valentino's 2018 couture collection. In a caption, it wrote, "@CSiriano deserves credit for being so inclusive as a brand. This pink @maisonvalentino Spring 2018 couture gown maybe shouldn't have been included in his FW19 collection though." See it below...
Siriano responded to the post, acknowledging the similarities, writing, "Yea wow last time I have this designer in my studio make a dress. Agree it's pulled." Then, the designer commented exclusively to WWD, continuing to distance himself from the design, saying, "I don't look at collections, so I had no idea what they were even referencing, but yes I agree it looks very similar. I wish I could control and make evert single dress myself that we put out there, but it's not physically possible."
It's a pretty major result for the Instagram account, further solidifying its authority in the industry. Who will it call out next? Our eyes are glued to our screens this Fashion Month...
