Chanel celebrates the opening of its new Rome flagship
Karl Lagerfeld throws a soirée at the bottom of the Spanish Steps
Chanel have officially launched and opened its new four-storey flagship at the foot of the iconic Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy. Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld threw a glamorous bash to celebrate the impressive new boutique on Thursday.
Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel's president of fashion said: “We’ve finally found the right location, with more space for ready-to-wear, to better show the Chanel collections."
The iconic French luxury fashion house previously operated out of a smaller location in Rome, at the Via del Babuino. The new Spanish Steps boutique quietly opened in December.
“It’s a kind of change. Before I had to come to Rome only for Fendi, now for Chanel, too,” noted Lagerfeld. “But Rome remains the inspiration for Fendi, and Paris for Chanel,” he added, before revealing that he has made over 800 trips to the Eternal City over the years.
Rome will also play host to the 2015 Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show, which is set to take place December 1.
