Cruise 2013-14: Chanel's exclusive preview
Private event at the Burj Khalifa, Dubai
Following on from our exclusive look at the collection's campaign, this morning Buro 24/7 Middle East witnessed Chanel's beautiful Cruise 2013-14 collection in the flesh, visiting a private floor of the Burj Khalifa's level 112 to be amongst the first to preview the new styles in Dubai.

Chanel Cruise 2013-14: The collection's opening look, directly inspired by a photograph of Coco Chanel
For Cruise 2013-14, Lagerfeld was inspired by an iconic picture of Coco Chanel on the beach in Deauville, France. Coco is pictured looking super-chic wearing her signature smattering of pearls, a sailor hat and jersey. The first look shown in this collection mirrors that ensemble, and was the starting out point for the rest. Navy, black, cream and white are the bread and butter in terms of colour, with jerseys, knits and tweed taking centre stage when it comes to fabric. The latest offering from the French fashion house also features two stunning gowns (which would look at home within the couture collection), full of intricate beading and embriodery as well as latex-gilded lace day dresses and shirts.

Lagerfeld chose to show his Cruise collection in Singapore in May earlier this year and the venue for the preview at the Burj Khalifa today was almost an exact replica of the Singaporean show space. Level 112 at the Burj Khalifa is a unused floor, a vast shell of concrete and exposed fixtures - a wonderful selection by the Chanel Middle East team, who also impressed us with their pioneering "digital press focus" preview event today.
The new collection also celebrates 100 years since the first Chanel boutique opened, also in Deauville in 1913. Lagerfeld cites pictures he found of Singaporean fishermen in 1880 as the inspiration for a new, refreshed jacket for Cruise 2013-14.
