The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have announced its plans to increase the amount of nominees for its upcoming CFDA Awards – with Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA noting that more noms were needed to "recognise the immense talent in American fashion.”

Following a series of new planned changes for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), CEO Steven Kolb has announced that the CFDA Awards will also feature more nominations for the first time.

As American designers will no doubt be trying to get some much-needed rest and relaxation following the stressful past week of shows at New York Fashion Week, the CFDA have provided them with even more reason to rejuvenate. Kolb announced today that – for the first time ever – the CFDA Award nominations will feature five, instead of three, nominations for the womenswear, menswear and accessories 'Designer of the Year' categories. Which provides America's designers with more chance of being up for a coveted award.

In a statement, the CFDA's CEO said: “We increased the number of nominees in the three categories to recognize the immense talent in American fashion.”

On Friday, the nomination ballots for the 2015 CFDA Awards will be sent to CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, which features 1,500 influential members of the fashion industry, including CFDA designer members, top buyers, editors, photographers and stylists.

The CFDA Award winners will be toasted at a special event on June 1 in collaboration with Swarovski, at Alice Tully Hall in New York.
