Making waves

Carolina Herrera was in her element in New York as she floated her water-themed Autumn/Winter 15 collection. A rage of blue hues and icy whites washed over the models in a succinct and comprehensive collection...

Carolina Herrera waded into the waters of fashion with her Autumn/Winter 15 New York showing of her aquatic collection: "Everything you see here is making waves," she said during a preview. "Colour and shape and movement, the little bouncing skirts. Water has so many situations, no?"

Waves indeed were washing over the pervading patterns, a marbling of dusky blues surfed the shift dresses and gowns that they adorned in a deeply focussed theme, that whilst intense, managed to remain buoyant.

Swirls of ebbing fabric ruffled at the bottom of a strapless frozen blue evening gown and ripples of colour wriggled down icy white woollen dresses and tops. Moments of red damned the flowing blue hues, so as not to flood the motif too earnestly. The silhouettes, in true Herrera style, remained classically feminine. It's safe to say that the Carolina Herrera show made a splash.
