On September 23, a one-of-a-kind solid gold cage evening clutch by Phoebe and Annette Stephens of Anndra Neen, will be auctioned off at the Sotheby’s Important Jewels auction in New York

Created in 2010, the cage clutch became Anndra Neen's signature piece. Instantly popular among the fashion industry, the clutch was shot by photographers Steven Klein, Craig McDean and Max Snow for publications such as Vogue, W Magazine, and Interview.

Following the delicate cage bag's rapid success as an iconic accessory, CR Fashion Book's Carine Roitfeld commissioned Anndra Neen to produce a cage clutch in collaboration with LoveGold in 18k solid gold for her 'Ultimate Gold Collection' fashion show, which benefitted amfAR in 2013 and will now be auctioned off this coming Tuesday.

Inspiration for the cage bag came from the pattern of a birdcage, built by Phoebe and Annette's father Luis Stephens, a Mexican painter and sculptor.  Now, the sisters translated their father's creation into an object that could be used in everyday life, holding onto their philosophy that every accessory has an indentity as an art piece.

This will also be the first time that Anndra Neen is participating in a Sotheby's fine jewellery auction, joining jewellery giants Buccellati, Van Cleef & Arpels, René Lalique and David Webb who will also be partaking in the auction.
