AltaRoma couture week is reportedly back on schedule
An unexpected turnaround
A week or so ago, it was announced that the Italian association, AltaRoma, had cancelled its next Roman couture week, which was scheduled for January 30 to February 2 – brought on by the lack of funding.
With the cancellation reports, AltaRoma president and Fendi's creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi said: "I hope that through the members' commitment we can break this deadlock," adding that she's "afraid that we might miss a useful occasion to reconfirm the trust in public involvement aimed at supporting development and giving hope to one of the most important productive sectors for the future re-launch of our country."
It was noted that the summer edition of the AltaRoma couture week would still go ahead, and would run July 11 to 15.
Now, in an unexpected turn of events, it would seem that AltaRoma's January showcase is back on, following a cash-injection. WWD have reported that on Wednesday, AltaRoma sent an e-vite to press and buyers inviting them to the shows from January 30 to February 2.
According to media reports in Italy, Rome’s municipality have agreed to allocate 300,000 euros to finance the fashion week and give it its much-needed cash injection. Which means that perhpas Silvia Venturini Fendi's wishes have come true, and thanks to members commitment the "deadlock" has, indeed, been broken... An official announcement is expected to follow shortly.
