Twist and fold

Alexis Mabille might be experimenting with the Japanese art of origami in his new Autumn/Winter 15 collection, which is full of skilfully folded fabric, and folding motifs...

Alexis Mabille's Autumn/Winter 15 collection aimed for "Chic meets street, no limit," according to the man himself, with a "night sport" element thrown into the mix. Indeed, dressed up sports looks pervaded the collection, sweat-shirt dresses in workout grey were paired with cut-out white stilettos and a sporty hoody trimmed in chic fur matched up with a swing mini skirt, realising the look to great effect.

Moving up the spectrum, to the less casual, came the overarching motif of the collection – a geometric bi-tonal folding of fabric. This came in dresses, skirts, tops, jackets. Always impeccably placed, whether carefully situated across a bust line or tidily employed on a wait line to wonderfully synch, the execution was always skilful. Folding fabric in on itself, to often reveal a differently toned underside. He even went so far as to print this effect on a silk fabric top and dress, to give the illusion of folding, that some of their counterparts have. A lovely touch.

Mabille worked in a neutral palette with the collection, favouring greys (the sport influence) whites, nude pinks and blacks and navy, allowing the fabric and shapes to take centre stage.
