Actress Stacy Martin fronts Miu Miu campaign
Shot by Steven Meisel, the label tapped the rising actress to front this latest set of black-and-white ads to promote its new collection for Winter, and the images have already met controversy - with people comparing them to Saint Laurent campaigns, complaining that they are slightly too similar.
Either way, the sixties inspiration is apparent and recalls Andy Warhol and his muse Edie Sedgwick. Meisel keeps things simple – using direct light to highlight Martin's natural beauty. The new visuals are a million miles from Miu Miu's previous campaign for Spring/Summer 14 – which featured bright colours and busy backgrounds.
In the glittering canon of rising actresses who have starred in Miu Miu's previous campaigns Martin confidently takes her place as an enigmatic storyteller. In her hands the clothes become layers in a rich narrative of multiple femininities, the glamour of Warhol and living and dressing effortlessly.
