Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS16: Valentino
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli refer to a globe-wandering sensibility with this Valentino Spring/Summer 16 collection. There is a sense of the nomad about the well worn and a worldly designs, but not of not belonging, more of intentional exploration with relaxed meanderings. "We want to describe the new men as new people, not with genders, with stereotypes....[It's about finding] your own balance between heritage and your memories and your sensibility." Said Piccioli, referring to a sense of nostalgia.
Embroidery and patches infused this travelling vibe, by either providing a sense of the exotic and distant destination through oriental inspired botanical motifs or tourist-like patches sewn onto jacket sleeves. One trench coat came with two layers of colourful belts, styled undone, that felt as if they might be part of some intrepid exploring kit.
Elsewhere relaxed denim combinations felt more homely and precision denim patchwork applied to a coat, became the denim statement of the collection.
