Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS16: Saint Laurent
Hedi Slimane presented his menswear Spring/Summer 16 collection for Saint Laurent in Paris, exhibiting a mixture of California grunge. The Californian beach scene, a favourite of Slimane's, came through in worn denim and palm tree motifs, which were also prevalent in the show's production.
'Surf Sounds' was the name of this season's collection and it was the prints that did most of the work conveying surf and sun, whilst the silhouettes and fabrics were slightly less-so. However, the godfather of grunge, Kurt Cobain, seemed to have had a heavier hand in influencing the designs. Widespread knitwear was employed on bobble hats and thrifty looking cardigans, the plastic sunglasses, made infamous by Cobain, were worn by most of the models and leather jackets and ripped jeans completed the scene.
