Milan Fashion Week Menswear SS16: Marni
Boyhood to manhood
Consuelo Castiglioni's returned to the Milan runway with the Marni Spring/Summer 16 menswear collection, giving us a touch of unease. Presenting the lineup to a remotely anxious soundtrack, the designs were framed as intentionally awkward, to great effect.
Castiglioni played with proportions, cutting trousers, which came in slim and wide shapes, at the ankle and gave collars an oversized feeling, as if one day the models might grow into them. This was a charming element of the collection, which featured a retro aesthetic in palette and print (the latter of which was used very sparsely).
Accessories saw a range of hold-alls, and document cases come in the same retro shades. Footwear consisted of slim three-tone sneakers and chunky patterned leather sandals, styled with mottled socks. Another fine example of awkward style.
