Milan Fashion Week Menswear SS16: Dolce & Gabbana
Chinoiserie and Sicily
The presentation of Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 16 collection was ringing with oriental influences. The seed of which was first sewn when Domenico Dolce visited the Chinese Palace in Palermo at the age of 7. The rich artistic, creative and traditional influences therein, were completely lost on the child, but have now remerged with a masterful aristocratic, imperial fashion spin.
The classical Chinese motifs of darting swallow birds, bamboo and oriental foliage prints, dragons and peacocks are prevalent in print across the luxe Italian tailoring of the collection. New silhouettes are also spliced with the traditional suiting shapes that we have come to expect from the house; Chinese landlord long-line jackets and geisha silhouettes also feature.
