How did Adriana Iglesias begin?
I've been in love with fashion all of my life. Actually I love art in all of its expressions; I love to paint, to play piano and violoncello. However I studied Telecommunications Engineering at university and went on to work in technology for more than twelve years. One day, I decided to change my life and do what I love, which started with a very personal capsule beach collection for my daughters and I. I loved it so much. It was a way of expressing myself. But when I saw how people were reacting to my clothes, I decided to carry on and I've never stopped.

  1. What's been the biggest challenge you've faced whilst creating a fashion brand?

Well, actually, everything has been a challenge. I started from zero. I was buying everything and I was single-handedly sewing thread.

You mentioned you only design pieces you would wear. Why do you think this is so important?
Across the seasons, everything I create is from my soul and it's always "me". As a brand it's good to have an essence and an aesthetic that is as strong as possible and I don't think it would be easy to communicate my vision any other way.

What does Spain and the Middle East have in common in terms of style?
I think that countries with warm weather, plenty of sunshine and that are located by the sea have a very special atmosphere. The women are very beautiful, elegant and feminine.

  1. Why is branching out in the Middle East so important?
  2. It's very important for me to expand the brand around the world but in order to do that, it's critical to make the right steps. The Middle East has been on my mind since the very beginning. Silk is at the core of my collections and the weather here allows you to wear silk all year around. The prints and colours we use also work perfectly. The Middle East has a young and growing population and there is growth in small spaces. There's also a prominent consumer shopping behaviour.

I perceive the people here to have a well-educated knowledge of consumer goods

  1. What are your three favourite things to do in Dubai?

I love to water ski. I also love the sea and how it feels when you look back and see that amazing skyline. But I'm always shopping! When you go to places like The Dubai Mall, it's incredible because everything you need or desire is there. I also love to go to the desert and just enjoy Dubai with my kids, they especially love Atlantis.

  1. How do you juggle being a designer, business owner and mother?

My daughters are my biggest fans and their attitude is so great, which makes everything easier. I love being a mother above all but our life is lived around this business and we share everything. They do their homework at the atelier. My parents are also very close to us and they help me so much...

I am a very positive person and I try to get the best out of everything. we're all living this adventure together!

Is there someone in particular you would love to see wearing your clothes?

Actually I really love when I see any woman around the world wearing my designs, but if I had to say a celebrity I would say Charlotte Casiraghi, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Julia Roberts or Gwyneth Paltrow.

Biggest career moment so far?
Every day.

  1. What would be your top tip for styling Adriana Iglesias?

My pieces are very versatile, so I would encourage women to wear a long silk skirt during the day with a cotton t-shirt and the same skirt with a stiletto at night.
