Buro Asks: Alice Temperley
The quintessentially British designer
What was the first thing that you thought of this morning?
My son Fox who was up extremely early and wanting his breakfast.
What will be the last thing you think of before you sleep tonight?
I have to have a long scented bath and think about good family, positive things, and the next day. I try to be extremely organised and on top of things so I have these thoughts before I go to bed so not to think about them in bed.
When were you happiest?
On holiday on the planes of Africa with the elephants, waking to humming birds on the breakfast table. Taking long walks, riding and spending hours under the stars, in an open hut watching the sun rise.
If nostalgia were a smell, what would it be?
Apples and fresh air on my parent's farm in Somerset, I grew up there and that smell makes me feel completely at peace.
Where is your favourite spot in the world?
Africa, Mexico, Morocco - I find these cultures, colours and architectures so inspiring.
What would your last meal consist of?
Mussels and oysters from France, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, avocado with lots of pepper on toast, oh and maybe a roast dinner too.
What is your greatest fear?
Losing my loved ones and family and making sure I find time for the important things in life.
Which living person do you most admire?
I would say my mother. She is a very captivating, creative woman and always looks so glamorous even when she is in wellies on the farm.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
More time for things for myself and my family.
Which artwork do you wish you'd created?
Photographic work - Man Ray and Guy Bourdin. I have just brought myself a Hasselblad camera. Or if it was painting, anything by Tamara de Lempicka, she painted the most amazing bold yet sensual images.
What's the next big thing?
Lea Seydoux, she has been around a while but her star is about to soar.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My son Fox, he is without doubt the best thing that has ever happened to me.
What do you wish you invented?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I would like to be able to fly; it would make travelling so much easier.
