Trend report: The 8 footwear styles to own this season

Step out in style
Fashion Week might be over, but that doesn't mean we're dropping the ball on staying one step ahead of the trends...

Once upon a time, clothing was the sole focus of an outfit. Sure the shoes and bags were important, but they predominantly served to complement the clothes. That’s all changed in recent years however with both footwear and handbag categories experiencing huge growth and diversification — especially the former.

There are several key footwear styles for the season ahead and we’ve teamed up with Harvey Nichols — Dubai to take the guesswork out of planning your next purchase by rounding up the top eight styles to own:

1. The new sneaker

The sneaker has had a high fashion revival in recent seasons and for autumn/winter it remains a signature style. This time around however, the silhouette is chunkier with greater focus on the sole — the bigger, the better.

2. Kitten heels

Your highest heels will remain in retirement for yet another season as the kitten heel is still going strong. Entirely practical and also so very pretty, they add a ladylike edge to any outfit. Plus you can walk in them all day long.

3. Combat & hiking boots

Atten-TION! The military influence has made its way to footwear. Opt for a lace-up flat boot to add edge to your next ensemble. They might seem tough, but they pair perfectly with midi skirts and feminine dresses.

4. Think pink

Pink is no longer reserved for Wednesdays. In fact, it’s one of this season’s hottest hues in footwear. Whether pastel or punchy, opt for the colour on boots, mules and everything in between.

5. Optic white

Once the last colour anyone would pick for a shoe besides a sneaker, white is officially the colour du jour, particularly on boots a la Chloé and heels at Valentino.

6. Animal

Leopard print has made a seemingly unstoppable comeback this season and opting for the print on your shoes is the perfect way to integrate it into your outfit without the risk of looking like Fran Fine.

7. Western

Leave the rope and hat at home this season and instead opt for a pair of Western-inspired boots to imbue your next outfit with a little bit of attitude. Choose a heeled variety for a dressier option or go for the classic flat silhouette for all-day ease.

8. Slouchy boots

Slightly more casual than its straight cut sister, the slouchy boot is seriously cool. Pair it with jeans and a blazer or use them to finish off a midi dress for a  more boho vibe. Still not sure how to wear it? Take your cues from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on this one.

As for the brands to look out for? Malone Souliers,Valentino, Gianvito Rossi, Sophia Webster and Alexander McQueen are all at the top of our lists.
