Sole DXB 2016: What to do, see, experience
Dubai is about to explode with street culture as Sole DXB returns for its annual event. From talks and fashion to food and new sneaker releases, the two-day festival is anchored in iconic footwear but brings sub-culture to the fore. With a smorgasbord of activities, here are Buro 24/7 Middle East's top things to do, see and discover at Sole DXB.
Exclusive sneak peeks
It's all about the shoes at Sole DXB and this time around, there are plenty of exclusive unveilings including Athletic Propulsion Labs' (APL) alligator-skin trainer that's been treated with gold as well as a first look at the one-of-a-kind masterpieces by the shoe surgeon himself, Dominic Chambrone. Then, don't miss the launch of the Puma Clyde x Sole 'Swag', a limited edition sneaker that features ostrich leather, gold tip laces and gold foil logo accents. Also, if you're in the mood for some customised kicks, then head to the Level Shoes pavilion where you can win a pair of customisable Filling Pieces sneakers, which will be presented by Founder Guillaume Philibert, of course.
Be inspired by the insight of some of the world's foremost sneaker and trainer trendsetters. Don't miss Nike's panel discussion on Thursday, November 17 at 7pm head to the Nike booth with leading influencers set to talk about the sneaker revolution in the Middle East. Then on Saturday November 19 at 4pm visit the Puma Space because Yassine Saidi, Puma's Global Senior Head of Lifestyle is discussing all things street with Mikey Trapstar, the founder of the eponymous streetwear label, Trapstar.
Street culture brings with it its own signature style and two labels lead the fashion invasion for the Fall/Winter '16 season: Daily Paper and Represent, both featured at the participating 3000sq ft concept, store Early Retirement. While Amsterdam-based Daily Paper presents a tribal-inspired collection, UK-born Represent offers more street staples including draw-string pants and loose hoodies.
Stop to fuel up on an array of culinary offerings. Choose from the Vida Food Truck with its menu of mac'n'cheese, ceviche and smoked brisket or have a refreshing beverage that's packed with nutrients from the Kold Press Juice Kompany; the brand's use of a slow press hydraulic system ensures that all of the vitamins are intact. But if you're in the mood for a high calorie-pump, then the artisanal Activated Charcoal & Lemonade ice cream is your answer.
Film and music
A deeper understanding will lead to a better appreciation of the sneaker movement and Sole DXB is set to present the prize-winning film Style Wars, on Thursday November 17 at 7pm. The documentary puts the spotlight on the sub-culture scene in New York in the '80s which was credited with the birth of a street movement that naturally included music, dance, fashion and art. Speaking of music, the high-octane playlist at this year's event will come courtesy of musical bigwigs including Skepta, Little Simz, Large Professor & Diamond D, DJ Clark Kent and Stretch Armstrong.
Sole DXB will run from November 18-19 at Dubai Design District. Also, discover the must-have Chanel derby shoes.
