An ultra-luxe espadrille style has been devised by Valentino, directly influenced by Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1969 film 'Medea'

Embellished with a gold scarab talisman in respect of the costume for Pasolini's film Medea, Valentino takes mythical inspiration for its new summer-infused shoes.

The Maria Callas film was also cited as the founding inspiration for Valentino's Spring/Summer 2014 show ahead of their most recent collection shown in Paris earlier this year. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli reinterpreted the cruel, wild mythical character by way of delicate lace, opulent embroidery and golden trimmings. 

With a nod to the golden fleece that flew the characters of Medea and Jason  in the Greek myth, the espadrilles are decorated with golden scarab and griffin talismen...
