As a 12-year-old living in a coastal Brazilian city, star player Neymar Jr. used to spray paint his cleats in gold; now Nike has taken his childhood aspirations and turned them into a reality with the release of the special edition Gold Hypervemon boots – expected to be seen on the pitch this Saturday

The celebrated Brazilian player had previously launched the original Hypervemon Phantom boots in May 2013, and has had major contributions to the current evolution of the shoe into the gold edition.

The outer shell of the shoe was developed using NIKESKIN methods comprised of mesh and polyurethane film, and is finished off with Nike's All Conditions Control technology, which gives the cleats the ability to maintain ultimate control whether in wet or dry conditions. The sock liner features aspects of gold spray paint with the Hypervemon original motifs still present.

Another new feature of the shoe is the removal of excess materials in order to close the gap between the foot, ground and ball. Denis Dekovic, Nike Football design director says of the unique design techniques, "The athletes asked us to deliver a boot that gets as close as possible to the feeling of playing barefoot. Mesh takes us a step closer to doing that and the All Conditions Control finish keeps the mesh dry."
