The spotlight is firmly on South America as Chanel showcases their Cruise collection on the streets of Havana. Buro 24/7 Middle East goes inside the highly-anticipated event...

Luxury fashion house Chanel held its 16/17 Cruise collection show in Havana, Cuba, yesterday afternoon. The historic event marks the first time a major fashion event has taken place in the country since the revolution and to celebrate celebrities including Gisele Bundchen, Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Paradis and Vin Diesel jetted south for the event.

On the streets of Paseo del Prado, Chanel's Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld, presented a line that reflected the country's rich culture and heritage, specifically the guayabera. Nicknamed the 'Cuban tux' by Lagerfeld, the monochromatic (and satorically traditional) suits were given the haute treatment.

The colour palette too, drew inspiration from the city with pops of yellow, pink, orange, turquoise and green. Looks were then made perfectly complete by the Panama hat and the occasional beret, a nod to the Cuban leader, Che Guevara.
