Men of the week: Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti

The timeless twosome party on

Two names that pretty much make any formal gathering an A-list event, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti know how to take the art of socialising to a super-luxurious level...

The legendary Mr Garavani and his long-term, Roman-born business partner – the famously fiery Giancarlo Giammetti, who has been at the helm of the label for over 40 years – seem to have made it their mission of late to prove that there still ain't no party like a Valentino party.

No mean feat, when you consider the former is now a graceful 82-years-old and the latter widely considered to be in his late 70's (he doesn't disclose, exactly).

The pair have made quite the impact in the city that never sleeps, with various events to promote At The Emperor's Table, Valentino's new tome, a perfectly fabulous ode to entertaining in the best possible way – after appearing at London's new Assouline store last month (and making time to party with Mario Testino whilst they were at it), the pair soon made the journey across the pond to attend the funeral of Oscar de la Renta, and continue to wave the flag of fabulousness on the social circuit.

Under his Instagram handle @privategg, Giammetti has launched himself into the fashion sphere as an entity in his own right, with decades of decadent partying with the world's finest celebrities under his belt to share, he revealed a hugely successful title on the topic last year, The Private Eye of Giancarlo Giammetti. At the time, Valentino was quoted as saying, "Giancarlo deserves to tell a bit more about himself. Living all his life next to me, he accepted a life that was reducing. But there's a saying, 'When two men ride the same horse, one has to be in the back.'" Which perhaps has become a little less applicable with time and Giammetti's star power swells, but an understanding they share, nonetheless.

With the prospect of further celebrations on the horizon, as the Valentino brand celebrates a new flagship in its birthplace of Rome next year (sharing the news that it will show its AW15 Haute Couture collection there in the summer, forgoing its regular Paris slot) it seems that perhaps the duo will be able to host a true homecoming of sorts – and no doubt mind-blowingly elegant party awaits, to the power of two...
