An exclusive journey behind the scenes of Razan Alazzouni SS15
Shooting her Spring/Summer 15 collection during New York Fashion Week was a timely and wise move by one Razan Alazzouni, not least when you consider that the young name-to-know is yet to enjoy an international platform such as Lincoln Center to showcase her talent.
We are wowed by the pieces – a distinct evolvement from her also impressive past season – which are simultaneously feminine and modern, cutting-edge and classic. Favourites include an all-white look consisting of a white A-line skirt with cut-out slashes and matching crop top and a beautiful full skirt peppered with pretty embellishment.
Take a look at the exclusive behind-the-scenes images, and five minutes spent with the designer.
Five minutes with Razan
What was the main inspiration behind this collection?
The ocean was the main inspiration behind this season. I wanted it to be as summery as possible and nothing says summer like the sea.
Which is your favourite look and why?
I love the long, off-white skirt and the cropped top. I guess its my favourite because its such a fun outfit that you can easy make your own with the right accessories.
What is the concept of the shoot?
We kept the shoot as simple as possible; and used a grey backdrop to make the light colours and beading of the fabric show. I think it also resembled the depth of the ocean. I wanted the clothes to look like hidden treasures you would find.
How did the shoot go? What were the highs and what were the lows?
The shoot was amazing. We had an amazing team. Mazen our photographer always makes shooting fun. The entire team was so great, it was the fastest shoot we ever had even though it was the largest collection I have designed.
Talk us through the incredible new jewellery - inspiration, materials etc.
Pearls will always be my first love. It's such a beautiful material to work with and I always use it in my beading. It was so much fun designing jewellery that resembled the beading and held the essence of the collection theme. I think having these accessories made really added to the designs. It was a way of adding a little edge in the collection.
Who would you most like to see wearing Razan Alazzouni SS15?
A confident woman wanting to shine and be different... Someone wanting to stand out, and turn heads.
