Mimi Shakhashir’s UAE designs
In time for National Day and the Expo 2020 decision
Ahead of UAE National Day on December 2, a long-term resident of the country's creative community has developed a jewellery and accessory line that pays tribute to the three-fingered victory salute of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Designer and founder of online shopping experience Kaleidoscope by Mimi, Mimi Shakhashir, has created a range of necklaces, bags and pendants in collaboration with her Emirati friend and artist, Noorah Sultan Al Habtoor, who first showed her a photo of HH Sheikh Mohammed making the gesture.
"Enthusiasm, innovation and pride in Arab culture are the cornerstones of the Kaleidoscope by Mimi design ethos, and we produced this line of accessories to celebrate the victory salute associated with its creator and the leadership of the UAE," said Mimi.
The iconic sign, made using the thumb, index finger and middle finger is reported to mean win, triumph and excellence. It is believed that HH Sheikh Mohammed said the sign also means "I love you".
Designed for both women and men, the Dubai salute accessory line includes a diamond bracelet version on bright cord, a necklace featuring the salute charm on fine leather cord, a larger pendant strung on semi-precious beads with Arabic writing across the three fingers and palm, and a bag with an engraved hand clasp.
"The Dubai salute pieces are a fun, light-hearted tribute to the UAE and its leadership - a way to wear your support for the Emirates on your sleeve or close to your heart," Mimi added.
