Introducing the experimental designs of Steven Tai
A world of androgynous elegance
A self-professed bookworm, Canadian-born Steven Tai graduated with a BA in Fashion Design from London's Central St Martins, which was then followed by work experience at top design houses such as Viktor & Rolf, Hussein Chalayan and Stella McCartney before launching his own label in 2012.
His unique and sculptural collections of innovative textiles combined with a celebration of "the awkward" caught the eye of Yohji Yamamoto, who awarded him the inaugural Chloe award at the 2012 Hyères Festival. Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, he then went on to present a collection during Berlin Fashion Week where he received international recognition for his self-confident and endearing take on 'geek-chic'.
Since then, Tai has continued to uphold a strong fashion following, as he made his mark at New York Fashion Week in September 2013, exhibited at Vogue Italia's 'Eye on Talents' exhibition in Milan and became the latest designer to join the prestigious Centre for Fashion Enterprise pioneer programme.
Steven Tai is available at the Mahani boutique in Dubai.
