A closer look at The Design Museum's 'Women Fashion Power' exhibit
Who run the world? Girls.
Designed by the world-renowned architect, Zaha Hadid, and and co-curated by Colin McDowell and Donna Loveday, head of curatorial at the Design Museum, Women Fashion Power, brings together exclusive interviews, multimedia elements and historic pieces of clothing to form the most wide-ranging showcase of modern fashion ever to be shown in England. The exhibition displays iconic items from 19th century corsets to a 1966 Le Smoking suit from Yves Saint Laurent.
With 26 contemporary women featured in the exhibition, each fashion icon has contributed an outfit for display as well as sharing their personal style ethos, from Diane von Furstenberg, Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes to Charlotte Olympia and HRH Princess Charlène of Monaco.
Alongside the designer showcase, Ruth Hogben will also be showing a seven-minute film, "This film takes the fashion and removes it from the context of the body. It allows the viewer to focus on what these women wear and the importance of the advice they give, rather than how their figure looks in their clothes. Fashion is not a frivolity, it is an armour. It should be used to elevate rather than disguise oneself." explained Hogben.

Additionally, some innovative fashion talks will feature: 'Harper's Bazaar on Women Fashion Power' will see Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Justine Picardie hosting a panel discussion about how successful women have used fashion to define and enhance their position in the world, with another talk with one of the most creative designers in the fashion industry, Roksanda Ilincic. Fashion historian Amber Butchart will also be curating a programme of three talks on power, dress and culture, titled 'Faith, Fashion and Power in Muslim Dress'.
