Chanel Cruise 2014/15 Dubai: It's showtime
With a guestlist including Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia and high society twins Sama and Haya Abu Khadra, Karl Lagerfeld will welcome the crème de la crème of the Middle Eastern fashion and social scene tonight on a private island off the coast of Dubai, all in the name of Chanel's Cruise 2014/15 collection presentation.
Simply referred to as 'The Island' on the evening's chic, sunshine emblem adorned invitation, the venue has been built set against the calm Gulf waters and glittering Dubai skyline, the iconic Burj Khalifa included – promising to be a $2.5 million spectacle of huge proportions. It's not the first time that Chanel have played host in the shadow of the magnificent building, either.
When it comes to the collection, we expect to see something reflective of, and relevant to, the show's literal situation, as has come to be expected from the brand in recent excursions to places such as Dallas and Singapore. Considering that Dubai has been called a "futuristic megalopolis of the 21st century" by the brand on the announcement of the event itself, we are expecting contemporary, to say the least. However Buro 24/7 would love to see Lagerfeld's subtle, Chanel infused take on the traditional National Dress of the UAE...
In the meantime, a host of international fashion models such as Jourdan Dunn, Lindsey Wixson, Grace Mahary, Binx Walton, Malika Firth and Chiharu Okunugi have been posting glowing Instagram reports of their arrival to the city in the past 24-hours, with ex-model and British fashion icon Laura Bailey, and American electric soul singer Janelle Monae joining them – perhaps the latter to provide the performance during the show itself, or the cocktail party that follows? Rest assured you'll find out by way of Buro 24/7 Middle East, first.
