Fashion and art to feast the eyes...

There's a new meaning for the classic connection between fashion and fine art. A new dimension for both. Whilst we’re used to seeing fashion get inspired by art, it’s a lot less common to experience the contrary, where artists get inspired by fashion. But rules are made to be broken, especially when it comes to the unconventional house of Alexander McQueen and its Creative Director, Sarah Burton.

To illustrate the fact that creativity emerges from countless perspectives, the brand invited 12 artists to express their individual working practices from its Pre-Fall 2022 women’s collection. Presented inside the house’s duplex boutique on London's Old Bond Street, each artist presented work through their preferred medium based on a look from the collection.

The artworks, just like all the fashion staples, can be purchased inside the store or online, whilst an exhibition highlighting the creations will be available until June 21st. The artists come from around the world and include Ann Cathrin November Høibo, Beverly Semmes, Bingyi, Cristina de Middel, Guinevere van Seenus, Hope Gangloff, Marcia Kure, Jackie Nickerson, Jennie Jieun Lee, Judas Companion, Marcela Correa and Marcia Michael.

“I wanted to engage in a new creative dialogue with the collection this season and see how the artists interpreted the work that we created in the studio. It’s been very interesting to see how creativity has sprung from so many different perspectives and the outcomes that have been varied are beautiful. We wanted the artists to have total freedom to respond to the looks, creating bold and thought-provoking conversations with their works. I hope that viewers will be as inspired as we have all been by witnessing these creative processes.” – Sarah Burton, Creative Director.
