A QUEST FOR FREEDOM

Re-living history with Dior’s Winter '22 collection
Kim Jones bridges the past, present and future of Dior’s 75-year existence…

To attain freedom is to live by our own rules, to create our own history. And if there’s a man that’s currently rewriting his own rulebook – amongst many things – it’s Dior’s Menswear Creative Director, Kim Jones. Perhaps one of the most celebrated fashion talents of our generation, the British designer channels that forward-thinking, boundary-pushing energy into his creations, whilst always making sure to acknowledge and respect the history of the Maison. The Winter ’22 collection is a prime example.

Earlier this year, Jones presented his latest autumnal showcase set against a stunning recreation of Paris’s ornate Pont Alexandre III, and it just seemingly coincided with the Maison’s 75th anniversary. The collection resulted in a celebration of the house codes, highlighting Dior’s living history through reinterpreted designs that bridged the past, present and future.

Featuring a delicate and romantic approach to menswear, one that truly embodied a free spirit, the collection consisted of a straightforward reimagination of the iconic ‘Bar’ jacket which was now tailored to accentuate the waist and hips; sleek tailoring which came in the form of relaxed trousers, luxurious oversized coats and embellished cardigans; and a series of sportswear pieces to signal Jones’ approach to comfort.

The collection also elevated Dior’s sense of drama by pairing glistening chainmail vests with sharp buttoned-down shirts and monochrome pantsuits or completing a formal suit with the highly adorned Dior x Birkenstock collaboration.

In case you needed it, the successful autumnal collection was renewed proof that Jones continuously has his finger on the pulse of things – but always with a nod of respect to the Maison’s archives – and above anything else, it caters to every type of man out there.

A universal value of the human spirit, the idea of freedom allows the opportunity to rewrite the rules and what it means to be ‘free’.

He creates his own freedom.
