The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra to perform in the UAE next week
Musicians from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and Iran
Founded in 1999 by the acclaimed Israeli conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim and the late Palestinian literary scholar Edward Said, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra brings together musicians from Israel, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt - with a number of musicians from Iran, Turkey and Spain. They meet each summer in Seville, Spain, for a workshop, where rehearsals coincide with lectures and discussions. This is then followed by an international concert tour.
Having previously performed at the National Theatre in Doha, Qatar in 2010 the Orchestra returns to the region. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will present an exclusive experience of classical music featuring ageless compositions such as Sinfonia Concertante by Mozart and Beethoven's timeless Symphony No.7 on Thursday 23 January at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.
