His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has declared 2017 as the Year of Giving in the UAE. Built around three elements – community spirit, volunteering, loyalty – the theme encourages national solidarity and a mentality of giving without expecting rewards.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter after the announcement: "When citizens and institutions benevolently unite for their country, civilised nations prosper; that is our goal for the Year of Giving." He also shared that the private sector will play a critical role in implementing the plan for the directive and said that this will showcase the philanthropic leadership of the President and the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince. "Khalifa bin Zayed and Mohammed bin Zayed are our inspiration, their generosity is the reason the UAE is the most giving nation in the world."
