The Abu Dhabi Festival 2014 extends its festivities with a unique 'Pre-Festival Concert', focusing on youth and music

Comprising of around 180 young musicians aged between 17 and 30, The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (SBSOV) – and Maestro conductor Gustavo Dudamel – are shining emblems of the heralded State Foundation for the Venezuelan System of Youth and Children's Orchestras (known as El Sistema).

Renowned for its skilled musicianship, energy and thrilling performances, the SBSOV will be playing extracts from Tchaikovsky's The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet, as well as Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 tomorrow night, to launch the Abu Dhabi Festival 2014 with their first ever performance in the UAE.

The SBSOV is a product of El Sistema, the publicly financed voluntary music education programme in Venezuela that has been creating great musicians and dramatically changing the life trajectory of thousands of young people, ever since 1975.

Beyond musical entertainment, the SBSOV and the Abu Dhabi Festival share the vision that music plays a fundamental role in society, particularly for the youth whose creative expression and cultural appreciation is supported through exposure to the greatest artists in the world and some of the greatest music.

"We are truly delighted to have Gustavo Dudamel & The Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela launch Abu Dhabi Festival 2014" says H.E. Mrs Hoda I Al Khamis-Kanoo, founder and artistic director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, "Similar to our aspirations to foster local musical appreciation and development within the UAE, the SBSOV goes beyond entertaining the crowds in its commitment to the transformative power of music. Music provides a haven of safety, joy and fun that builds every child's self-esteem and sense of value, which is something we hope the audiences of Abu Dhabi will consider when they bring their families to appreciate such wonderful music."

Gustavo Dudamel & The Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Emirates Palace Auditorium on January 27
