Louvre Abu Dhabi's Talking Art Series III closing May programme
Offering audiences a wide selection of talks and workshops
The Louvre Abu Dhabi's extensive programming around the future museum's third 'Talking Art Series' is coming to a seasonal close in May,and will offer a selection of talks taking place on May 21 at 6.30 at Manarat Al Saadiyat with Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of Musée du Louvre – in conversation with scholar and novelist Waciny Laredj on the topic of 'Universal Museums: From Enlightenment to Abu Dhabi'.
Adding further context to the Louvre Abu Dhabi's narrative, Novelist Waciny Laredji and Louvre's President-Director Jean-Luc Martinez — an archaeologist and art historian specialising in Ancient Greece — will refer to the Greek Archaic Sphinx, a recently acquired sculpture for the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The artpiece symbolises the geographical, trade and cultural connection between Egypt, Near Eastern civilisations and Greece, with the duo set to discuss the development of the universal museum.
"The third edition of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Talking Art Series provides audiences an exclusive opportunity to be part of the museum's journey to completion. Through a variety of talks, performances and workshops, carefully complemented with high-profile participants and artists, the works and collection are having their stories told in a vibrant and interactive way," states Hissa Al Dhaheri, Louvre Abu Dhabi Programmes Manager, within the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.
Following the unique talks and workshops, celebrated singer and composer Jahida Wehbe will perform a selection of her revered poetry and heartfelt songs at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
Both the Talking Art Series and Jahida Wehbe's performance are complimentary, although pre-registration is a must for all attendees.
