Kim Kardashian West succeeds in securing Alice Marie Johnson’s release

President Trump has granted her clemency
In amazing news overnight, Alice Marie Johnson has been granted clemency after over two decades in prison...

Last week, Kim Kardashian West met with President Donald Trump to discuss the case of 63-year-old great grandmother Alice Marie Johnson who has been in prison for over two decades. The case was particularly significant given that Johnson’s punishment far outweighed her crime — she received life without the possibility of parole plus 25 years for a first-time non-violent offense.

Kardashian West was alerted to her case after seeing an interview with Johnson on Mic and had her own personal attorney Shawn Chapman provide legal support for her clemency petition. Overnight, the reality TV star tweeted about the news writing, “Best news ever!” and in another tweet wrote, “So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance.”

Kim also added that she hopes “to continue this important work by working together with organisations who have been fighting this fight for much longer than I have and deserve the recognition.”

Plus, it was the KUWTK star that called Johnson to give her the good news. “The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories. Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will  never forget.”

Johnson was widely regarded as a model citizen during her 22 years in prison, which was recognised by The White House in their announcement about her commuted sentence saying she had “accepted responsibility for her past behaviour” and had “worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates.”

Johnson was officially released from prison overnight with the below video capturing the moment she was reunited with her family:
