Is Jay Z about to leave music streaming company Tidal?

Has the tide gone out for Jay Z?

Is the tide ebbing out for Jay Z and Tidal? If rumours are to be believed, the music mogul might be considering an exit from the struggling business. Know what we know here…

After the full fanfare of the Tidal launch a few months back, and big promises that the music streaming service, led by Jay Z, is going to be the next big thing in music – rumours are now circulating that the tide is washing out for the rap-star entrepreneur. The music streaming platform, run by artists for artists, has wound up to a slow start and is said to be leaving Jay out of pocket to the tune of tens of millions.

"It's just the beginning, so we're working out a lot of kinks and hopefully we're going to build something unique and amazing that's going to attract a lot of people," said Madonna, one of the many big name co-owners of the business, in a recent interview. "It's important that people understand we didn't create Tidal, we didn't put this together, we didn't all join forces because we're broke and we want more money. The idea is we want to support other artists and we want people to understand this is our heart, this is our work, and we want people to recognise that and we want other artists to have a chance."

The other small matter of Bryan 'Baby' Williams suing Tidal for $50 million for hosting Lil Wayne's Free Weezy album is also a big knock and potential financial strain for the company. Stay tuned to Buro 24/7 Middle East for the latest...
