Former First Lady Hillary Clinton has been officially named as the Democratic representative for the US presidential race. This follows her nomintaion win against rival Bernie Sanders and consequently marks the first time that a female presidential nominee of a big US party will be in the two-horse race for the seat in the White House.

After the win, Clinton took to Twitter to offer further encouraging words for her supporters. "Don't let anyone tell you that great things can't happen in America," she said. Clinton's husband, former US President Bill Clinton, also took to social media to express his thoughts on the history-making event, saying, "I keep saying Hillary is the ultimate changemaker, and tonight she proved it. I couldn't be more proud. History made."

Hillary Clinton will go head-to-head with Republican representative Donald Trump in the presidential elections set for November 2016.
