The Fondation Louis Vuitton opens Olafur Eliasson exhibition
The new Contact exhibit – conceived especially for the Fondation Louis Vuitton – explores a sequence of events along a journey. Marking the second phase of its inaugural program, the expansive Olafur Eliasson showcase invites visitors to become a part of a choreography of darkness, light, geometry and reflections. To delve within the concept of 'contact'.
The all-encompassing Contact features specially-made optical devices, models, and a meteorite to reflect Eliasson's relentless exploration of the complex idea of the mechanisms of perception vs. the construction of space – creating a unique, inspiring cosmos within the Fondation.
The new exhibit also marks Eliasson's first solo show in France since his 2002 exhibition at the Musée d'art Moderne de la ville de Paris.
"My exhibition addresses that which lies at the edge of our senses and knowledge, of our imagination and our expectations. It is about the horizon that divides, for each of us, the known from the unknown." Eliasson explained.
And the exhibition is not limited to the inside of the Fondation either – Eliasson has installed a special device that tracks the sun on the Paris icon's roof. At certain times of the day, the light directs rays onto multifaceted, geometric sculpture suspended within the building – bringing nature's beauty inside the walls of the Fondation.
Whilst a unique sound composition designed in partnership with Samuli Kosminen and Olafur Eliasson, offers a "vibrant interplay of daylight, yellow light, shadows, and reflections that offers constantly changing perspectives of the Fondation's architecture."
Contact runs at the Fondation Louis Vuitton Paris from December 17 – February 16 2015
