Emma Watson is named a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador
Working towards gender equality
It's a good week to be Emma Watson. As well as making her presence known on more than one Haute Couture runway front row, she's also been named a U.N Goodwill Ambassador, following in the footsteps of fellow humanitarian actress, Angelina Jolie.
She will be working under the U.N.’s gender-equality arm, U.N. Women, the organisation announced today.
The Harry Potter star, previous face of Lancôme and recent graduate of Brown University is the first ambassador appointed under the leadership of Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the Under Secretary-General and executive director of U.N. Women.
“Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting,” said Watson, who will work on the organisation’s women’s-empowerment campaign, HeForShe, it said in a statement.
