Emiratis are being offered the chance to study film in Paris
As part of La Fémis' intensive summer programme
As part of its strategy to foster local talent, Image Nation – a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media – will offer three Emirati students a chance to attend the critically acclaimed film school La Fémis' intensive programme in Paris this summer. A fourth candidate set on becoming a name to know in the Arab film world, and further afield, will also be sent to France, sponsored by French multinational oil and gas company, Total.
Michael Garin, CEO of Image Nation has said, "An essential part of our mission is to foster local talent and the program at La Fémis is a perfect opportunity for UAE filmmakers to learn from and interact with international talent. Paris is responsible for some of the most important cinematic movements, which makes the vibrant city the ideal place to study film."
Located in the historic Pathé Studios in the centre of Paris, La Fémis is ranked as one of the top ten film schools by Hollywood Reporter. The students selected will be taught filmmaking theory and practical skills by some of the best tutors in the industry. Trainees will also have the opportunity to discover contemporary French cinema through the study of important French directors.
His Excellency, Mr Michel Miraillet, Ambassador of France commented on the initiative, "This is the first time that the prestigious French film school La Fémis has created a program dedicated specifically to the emerging talents from the Gulf. Those kind of exchanges are essential to nurture the Franco-Emirati cooperation both on a cultural and economic level and participate to the vision of the leadership of the UAE."
The five week long program will run from August 8 – September 12 and applications via Image Nation are open to Emirati filmmakers aged 21 to 30, until June 26.
