Mathaf launches 'Doha Art Map' concept for Qatar's cultural scene
Mapping Doha's artistic gems
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, is continuing to play a crucial role in the creative and cultural life of Doha, and Qatar as a whole, with the dialogue-sparking, and creative-sharing new concept: Project 4's The Doha Art Map.
This collaborative mapping experiment aims to locate spaces of art in Doha, via a projected map of Doha, on the wall in Mathaf's 'Project Space'. Places where art can be experienced will be pinned by the public and the project's curators, onto the evolving, projected map.
Layers of deeper information such as images and references related to these places, can be printed in the space and pasted to the walls, creating a collective image bank and filling out the reach of the initiative.
Simultaneously, the projected map will be constantly update online, allowing anyone to engage in the projects and access the hotspot for art experiences.
Proving the importance of art education and innovation in the city, this project is the delightful result of a recent curatorial workshop, which lead to local curators and educators from Katara Art Centre, QMA Public Arts, and Mathaf to collectively create the concept and ultimately bring it to fruition.
Doha residents can contribute to the project online via social media or the myHistro Doha Art Map by using the hashtag #DohaArtMap to suggest places for inclusion on the online map.
