Damien Hirst to open Other Criteria store in New York
Signalling close of his flagship on London's Bond Street
Damien Hirst, contemporary artist co-founder of art store Other Criteria – the commercial leg of his publishing/retailing empire – is to close its flagship shop in Bond Street. Other Criteria has been located in the up-market area for the last six years, and the move is being blamed on the need for larger retail space; three times as much, in fact.
Other Criteria has said that the group wants to triple the selling space, but is looking to stay in the West End. The company has also announced it is to open a branch in SoHo New York this spring.
Establishing itself by producing an array of unique artworks, art publications and limited editions in a variety of media, from a growing range of products, Other Criteria works directly with a number of established artists to create "a tangible, everlasting presence".
It sources artisans, printers and fabricators worldwide to make books, prints and a wide range of desirable items of great originality, including photographs, clothing, sculptural works and jewellery. Previous collaborators have included Banksy, Jeff Koons, David Bailey, Tracey Emin, Mat Collishaw and many others, and of course, Damien Hirst.
