Thieves steal $1.5m in valuables at Christie's London headquarters
A pricey security breach
Known for selling one-of-a-kind art and antiques, Chrsitie's is the world's leading art business, making it one of the prime targets for robbery. The theft – which reportedly took place on the evening of December 7 – saw the loss of highly valuable pieces, including items from famed jeweller Fabergé.
After reporting the theft to Scotland Yard's specialist art and antiques unit, police have been investigating the case for two weeks and even though they have CCTV footage, have still failed to identify any of the suspects, who may be of an Eastern European descent.
