Following on from his early career of designing beautiful ballet garments in the 1980s, Christian Lacroix is revisiting the Paris National Opera

Maintaining an ongoing relationship with the Paris National Opera, fashion designer Christian Lacroix has dreamt up the costumes for Le Palais de Cristal, a ballet story by George Balanchine first created in 1947.

With four separate parts, each concerning the main movements of ballet and featuring one specific colour, the costumes play on traditional ballet costumes – in shades of red, green, midnight blue and champagne.

This is actually the fourth time Lacroix has created costumes for the Ballet de l’Opera under his own name, however his first designs in fact date back to the 80s, when he designed under the pseydonym couture label, Jean Patou.
