The New Zealand director Jane Campion has been named this year’s jury president of the Cannes film festival

Jane Campion will be Cannes first female to head the jury since 2009. Campion is no stranger to breaking records - she is also the only female filmmaker to have ever won the movie festival's prestigious Palme d'or, in 1993 for Piano - which was also an Oscar winner.

"I am truly honoured to join with the Cannes Film Festival as president of the in-competition features for 2014," Campion commented, "In fact I can't wait."

"Since I first went to Cannes with my short films in 1986 I have had the opportunity to see the festival from many sides and my admiration for this queen of film festivals has only grown larger," she went on to say.

Cannes will take place from May 14-25 2014.
